Our project brief from Clinique was to develop an app that would support the use of a new serum they were launching. Research led us to a slightly different insight: most women are unsure about how to develop a skin care regimen or how to adjust it based on different conditions. Our solution broadened that original scope turning the app into a personalized guide that actively helps women create and maintain beautiful skin. This new app is firmly rooted in Clinique’s belief that ‘great skin can be created at any age.’

The home screen featured a personalized daily skin care tip based on their skin type and concerns. And a daily weather report helps users tailor their skin care regimen to their location. The app is built with the user at the center. The more they use it, the better their skin care habits become.

We still needed to support the launch of the new Clinique Smart Serum, so we developed an interactive product tracker that encourages users to achieve their best results. A mobile chat feature enabled users to get personalized advice on the go from certified Clinique consultants. And an interactive before and after slider would allow her see the changes in her skin over time.


Phase 2

The app exceeded our expectations with 50% of our users opening the app five or more times per week and 40% registering for the first time. But there was also some critical feedback and feature requests. So along with a new branding initiative, we set out to improve the app. Some of the improved features include a Video Consultant Chat, a longer 3-Day weather forecast with animated weather icons, the addition of makeup to the personalized skin care recommendations as well as marketing tips to keep users informed about product launches and counter events. 

The updated app design was simpler and embraced a cleaner, brighter color palette.
